We advocate for child-centered co-parenting
Co-parenting after separation or divorce can be one of the hardest transitions a family faces. At Akua Family Therapy, our goal is to help parents build a child-centered, respectful partnership focused on stability and emotional safety for their children.
We blend Structural Family Therapy, Emotion-Focused Therapy, and Nonviolent Communication (NVC) to help parents:
Separate marital or personal conflict from parenting roles
Develop empathy for their co-parent’s perspective
Communicate effectively using “I-statements” and listening skills
Set clear boundaries and shared expectations
Support their child’s emotional needs without triangulation
We emphasize structure, consistency, and compassion as the foundation for healthy co-parenting.
Separated or divorced parents in high-conflict situations
Blended families learning to integrate new roles
Parents seeking to reduce stress on children during transitions
Clients needing co-parenting documentation or completion letters for court or mediation
